Additional information for individuals interested in participating in the completion of projects to obtain American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) Part IV Maintenance of Certification (MOC4) credit can be found below.

  • How do I enroll in a project?
    Participants may enroll in projects by contacting the project leader or point-of-contact for the individual project. Participants may also contact the IU School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics Faculty Quality Improvement Portfolio Committee.
  • How do I know if I am eligible to participate in a project?
    Eligibility to participate in a project is determined by the project leader and should be stated in the project description submitted to the committee. Participants seeking MOC4 credit must be fellows of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
  • How much does it cost to participate in a project for MOC4 credit?
    Small and large projects led by IU School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics faculty have no fees. Learning collaboratives and projects led by physicians who are not a part of the department may have associated fees. Any fees should be clearly states on the project application and discussed with the project leader.
  • How much of my time will I need to commit to a project to receive credit?
    Time requirement for completion of the MOC4 requirements will vary from project to project. The minimum participation is attending 4-6 meetings, as well as obtaining/furthering one’s education in quality improvement methods. Projects may also require participants to collect and interpret data, analyze performance and provide suggestions for ways to achieve project goals.
  • What is the standard duration of time for participation in a project?
    The duration of time expected for participation varies from project to project, but generally spans 6-24 months.
  • What will I be expected to do to receive credit for participating in the project?
    The minimum expectation is to actively participate in the minimum project duration and a number of meetings as determined by the project leader (at least four by ABP requirements), and participate in education about quality improvement as determined by the project leader (typically a minimum of two hours). Individual projects may have additional expectations determined by the project leader. Questions regarding these expectations should be directed to the project leader.
  • Can I participate in a project even if I do not need MOC credit?
    Project participation is determined by the project leader. In most cases, project participation will be welcomed, even if the participant is not seeking MOC credit.
  • What do I gain from participating in a project?
    Well-designed projects allow participants to contribute to the improvement of care for patients. Participants learn about methods for quality improvement through the education component of the project, as well as through watching the improvement in the clinical setting. Some projects will allow participants to receive MOC4 credit for activities they would already be doing to improve the delivery of health are with some minimum extra requirements.
  • Do I have to attend meetings in person to receive credit?
    Attendance requirements vary from project to project. Most projects will require participants to attend at least one meeting in person. If participants attend meetings via phone or web, they will be required to participate in conversations showing they are contributing to the project.
  • How many meetings do I need to attend to receive participation credit?
    The number of required meetings for attendance is determined by the project leader and cannot be changed after a project is approved by the review committee. Most projects will require participation in 4-6 meetings during a two-year period.
  • How many MOC4 points will I receive for participating in a project?
    Participation in most projects is worth 25 points. Points are given after the participant completes all of the requirements for participation as determined by the project leader and outlined in the project application. Participation includes active and meaningful participation in period meetings about the project as well as participating in educational opportunities related to quality improvement. Partial credit is not awarded if only some of the requirements are met. Credit for participation will count for the participant’s current cycle at the completion of the participation requirements. Credit cannot be given prior to completion of all requirements.
