Bio

Brian H. Mullis, MD, is the residency program director and a tenured professor with Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.

His specialty is orthopaedic trauma including acute upper and lower extremity trauma and post-traumatic reconstruction. He has been in practicing within the Indiana University Health healthcare system since 2006. Currently, he is based at IU Health Methodist Hospital; but he has experience working at Riley Hospital at IU Health, IU Health West Hosptial, IU Health University Hospital, Sydney & Lois Eskenazi Health (previously Eskenazi), the Richard L. Roudebush Indianapolis VA Medical Center. 

Mullis is also a combat surgery veteran having served 14 years in the United States Navy and active duty overseas during Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan), where he supported both regular and special forces.

Mullis plays an active role nationally in resident education through the Orthopaedic Trauma Association and other national organizations. His primary research focus is in clinical research, and he is the principal investigator in the multicenter allogeneic transfusion study which has received national attention for his innovative approach to reduced blood transfusions in trauma patients.
