The Orthopaedic Surgery Trauma Fellowship at Indiana University School of Medicine is a one-year ACGME-accredited program that offers an exceptional experience for orthopaedic traumatologists in training. IU Health Methodist Hospital is a Level 1 Trauma Center and one of the busiest in the United States. Previous fellows have described the operative experience as “phenomenal,” “very high acuity” and “busy with a full complement of acetabulum, pelvis and nonunion.”
In addition to a comprehensive operative experience, didactic curriculum and research program, this program boasts unique educational offerings, including presentations on the business of orthopaedic trauma, lectures on professional development, and a two-week fellow international rotation to Hangzhou, China and Eldoret, Kenya.
The clinical team consists of seven fellowship-trained orthopaedic trauma staff, two fellows, one resident, 11 nurse practitioners and physician assistants, one clinical nurse specialist, four full-time research coordinators (solely dedicated to the orthopaedic trauma team) and one biostatistician.
Dozens of local and national studies currently enrolling patients provide fellows with many opportunities to participate in research programs. Faculty research mentors assist in developing a fellow-specific project that is completed during the year.
