Brian P. Barrett, JD

Brian Barrett retired in 2019 as senior director and assistant general patent counsel after nearly 28 years with Eli Lilly and Company. While there, he was engaged in all aspects of patent practice, including procurement, licensing, litigation and reforming U.S. patent laws.  During his career, he also served as chairman of the Biotechnology Industry Organization’s intellectual property and amicus committees.  Brian has also worked as an attorney in private practice in Indianapolis and as a community pharmacist. 

Brian has undergraduate degrees in chemistry and pharmacy and earned his juris doctor from Indiana University McKinney School of Law.  He is a registered pharmacist and a registered patent attorney who is admitted to practice law in Indiana state courts; the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Indiana; Court of Appeal for the Federal Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.
