Bio

Thomas Engler received a BS in Professional Chemistry from South Dakota State University in 1976 and a PhD in Organic Chemistry from The Ohio State University in 1981. He was an NIH Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard University from 1982-1984 and was on the faculty of the University of Kansas from 1984-1999, rising to the rank of Professor of Chemistry and Courtesy Professor of Medicinal Chemistry. Beginning in 1998, he was in the Division of Discovery Chemistry Research and Technologies at Eli Lilly and Company, retiring as a Senior Research Advisor in 2017. From 2010-2015, he was also an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management in the School of Medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Over the years his research interests have included Medicinal and Organic Chemistry, Chemical Biology and Chemoproteomics, Phenotypic Drug Discovery, Oncology and Chemotherapeutics, Synthetic Methodology, Asymmetric Synthesis, Synthesis of Natural Products and Theoretically Interesting Molecules, and the Chemistry of Reactive Intermediates.
