Clinical Pharmacology Fellowship

The Division of Clinical Pharmacology at IU School of Medicine is dedicated to the training of physicians, pharmacists and related health care professionals in clinical pharmacology. The curriculum spans a minimum of two years and is designed to generate independent investigators for careers in academia, government and industry. In response to the high demand for non-physician clinical pharmacologists, PhD applicants are also considered for admission to this fellowship.

This fellowship is one of the few in the United States funded by the National Institute of Health, certified by the American Board of Clinical Pharmacology, and a former recipient of the Center of Excellence in Clinical Pharmacology grant from the Pharmaceutical Manufacturer’s Foundation.

Fellowship Training Components

Clinical

The clinical responsibilities of fellows within the program include participating in pharmacology consult service and clinical pharmacology clinical trials. These duties are an important element of the training as they offer fellows the opportunity to experience a wide range of clinical research protocols and challenges in clinical therapeutics as well as substantial opportunities for authorship in publications. Fellows serve as the primary point-of-contact for the clinical pharmacology clinic, research studies and after-hour activities.

Researchresearch

Fellows have a broad spectrum of research opportunities in outstanding research, clinical and informatics centers at IU School of Medicine and under the guidance of a vigorous group of well-funded faculty. Research activities of the clinical pharmacology fellowship include programs in drug metabolism, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, pharmacogenetics, pharmacoepidemology and clinical study design. Weekly research seminars are also a part of the curriculum; these seminars cover numerous medical subspecialty programs at IU School of Medicine.
