William K. Barnett, PhD
Associate Research Professor of Medical & Molecular Genetics
Dr. Barnett became the Chief Research Informatics Officer (CRIO) for the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI) and Regenstrief Institute in 2015. The CRIO is the key IT and Informatics leadership position for the health sciences research enterprise. For the Indiana CTSI, Dr. Barnett is responsible for the program that provides all the informatics services that the CTSI sponsors and delivers to clinical and translational researchers. These include data management, research systems, analytics, and web portals and community outreach. In particularly he partners closely with healthcare partners for the integration of research into the care system and for translation of research outcome to care. For the Regenstrief Institute, Dr. Barnett is CRIO and informatics faculty in the Center for Biomedical Informatics, participating in informatics research and providing leadership for the implementation of informatics services locally and nationally.
Dr. Barnett is also the Principal Investigator (PI) of the Informatics Core for the Collaborative Initiative on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders. He serves on the Steering Committee of the American Association of Medical Colleges Group on Information Resources. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Barnett was the Director of Science Community Tools in the Research Technologies Division of the University Information Technology Services at Indiana University, where he led the life sciences practice. In particular, he oversaw many of the Indiana CTSI informatics services, the National Center for Genome Analysis Support, and was the PI for the Operations Center of the Open Science Grid.
