Juan Carlos Venis, MD, MPH

Assistant Professor of Clinical Family Medicine


Juan Carlos Venis, MD, MPH is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Family Medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine.  He practices primary care at Eskenazi Health Center Westside as well as at the Eskenazi Transgender Health and Wellness Program in Indianapolis, IN. He provides full scope primary care of pediatric and adult patients as well as prenatal care. He enjoys office-based procedures including but not limited to dermatologic procedures, joint injections, and long-acting reversible contraceptive (LARC) placement.


Outside of clinic, he teaches medical students in an introductory clinical course and is involved in curriculum projects within the Department of Family Medicine. He is passionate about the inclusion of LGBTQ health topics in both undergraduate and graduate medical education. Presently, he is working with colleagues to build more LGBTQ health medical student curricula and partnering with the the IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency to create an LGBTQ health track.  He is interested in health disparities research specifically as related to sexual and gender minority populations.


Originally from Central Indiana, Dr. Venis attended Wabash College and IU School of Medicine. He completed his Masters in Public Health at the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health and his residency training at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, IN.  He is fluent in both Spanish and English.


In his free time, Dr. Venis enjoys spending time with his family, friends, partner, and dog, Oscar. He likes to stay active, enjoys music and dance, traveling new places, and loves food.
