Why I chose family medicine: I chose family medicine because it incorporates all the fields of medicine. It allows you to see a variety of medicine and to work with various patient populations. I love the continuity of care that is offered with family medicine and the breadth of knowledge. Disease prevention and maintaining health are very important and family medicine is the perfect specialty. I enjoy working with patients of all ages, which is why family medicine is perfect.

Why I chose the IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency Program: I chose the IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency Program because of the opportunities it provides. The residents and faculty that I met during my interview were fantastic and very friendly. I was intrigued by the longitudinal learning, strong curriculum, tracks offered, as well as the global health opportunities.

Personal interests and hobbies: I enjoy scuba diving, Indian classical dance, cooking, baking, yoga, watching movies and spending time with friends and family.

Why I chose family medicine: I knew family medicine was for me because I have always thought of doctors as people who should know a little about everything that someone might suffer from. I believe that everyone should receive and deserves quality care. Being a family medicine doctor means being prepared to serve and care for everyone.

Why I chose the IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency Program: I chose the IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency Program because I have had a lot of amazing experiences with large institutions like Ohio State and University of Cincinnati. Since residency is such an important part of my training, I knew that Indiana University School of Medicine would give me the resources, diversity and relationships that I need to become a skilled and respected family medicine physician.

Personal interests and hobbies: I enjoy playing the guitar, watching Netflix, golf, volleyball and spending time with family and friends.

Why I chose family medicine: Pursuing a career in medicine has been a goal of mine for a long time. Throughout years of study I have found that family medicine provides rich experiences with ample opportunity to customize it to suit your own personality. The strongest selling point for family medicine is the long-term relationships with patients provided through continuity of care.  My personal experiences with family medicine doctors has always been that they are friendly and approachable individuals focused on the well-being of their patients.  It is my desire to emulate this level of care in my own practice in the future.

The faculty was very friendly and welcoming and the facilities were impressive. I knew after that day that the Indiana University School of Medicine was a perfect fit for me. The IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency Program is geared in such a way as to foster learning by experience while providing ample opportunities to individualize your teaching with specialized tracks. The school’s location in downtown Indianapolis also allows for a unique experiences in a diverse city.

As a student I really enjoyed acute pathology, but I also wanted to experience more long-term relationships with patients. It encompasses all other specialties because it involves treatment of the whole person. This field is the only one where specializing does not inhibit physicians but rather broadens their expertise. I am drawn to the flexibility of the field and hope to practice throughout the spectrum of infants to geriatrics.

The faculty seemed very approachable, patient and eager to teach. There are a lot of hands on opportunities and the residents seem to really like it here. Attending the second look interview and being further exposed to all that the Indiana University School of Medicine has to offer confirmed why I made it my first choice.

Why I chose family medicine: I chose family medicine because it fulfills my pursuit for intellectual stimulation and professional satisfaction. Family medicine is one of the most rewarding and gratifying of specialties. Being on the front line of medicine challenges me in ways that I never thought possible. It gives me the ability to diagnose and treat a variety of medical diseases, both common and uncommon on a daily basis. Most patients are misfortunate enough to have multiple comorbid conditions affecting multiple organ systems requiring an interdisciplinary approach to their care. Moreover, notwithstanding the tremendous amount of progress made in all aspects of medicine, people still suffer needlessly from preventable diseases such as type II Diabetes Mellitus, hypertension and hyperlipidemia. Family medicine allows me to practice preventive medicine, which is something I believe to be of utmost importance. For all these reasons and more, I believe that is why my professional objectives and preferences are best tailored to the practice of family medicine.

During my clinical rotations I observed primary care physicians interact with and build long term trusting relationships with their patients. This trust allowed them to guide their patients in making medical decisions, even outside of their primary care needs. Those connections that I observed led me to choosing family medicine.

Why I chose family medicine: I chose family medicine for a variety of reasons. Continuity of care is very important to me and during my third year rotation in medical school, I loved seeing my attending interacting with patients he had been looking after for many years. When I attended the interview and second-look days, my first choice for residency became clear, as the residents and faculty were very welcoming and genuine. Why I chose the IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency Program: I chose the IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency Program because I was once a patient of this residency. They delivered my last child via emergency c-section. As a patient I experienced firsthand the dedication this residency has in not only teaching the residents medical skills, but also teaching the very important skill of excellent patient care. As a fourth year medical student, I was given the opportunity to do a clinical rotation with the residents. I felt at home within the first few minutes of my rotation.
