Why Family Medicine: Dr. Baloski chose family medicine because of the diversity in patient care and population as well as the great opportunity to develop a relationship with her patients.

Why IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency: As an Indiana University School of Medicine graduate, Dr. Baloski was excited to continue being a part of the great IU family. Additionally, she was impressed by the great reputation in training and education.

Professional Interests: Procedures, women’s health, obstetrics/gynecology, outpatient medicine and urgent care. Dr. Baloski is interested in possibly pursuing an obstetrics fellowship post-residency.

Personal Interests and Hobbies: Spending time with family/friends/cat, reading, cooking, shopping for anything vintage.

Why Family Medicine: Dr. Casselman was interested in entering into primary care from the start of medical school. Going through rotations in medical school, she enjoyed and was interested in about every field of medicine. She discovered that with in family medicine, she can do it all. Additionally, Dr. Casselman likes how family medicine allows for establishing long term relationships with her patients and delivering continuity of care.

Why IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency: Dr. Casselman was impressed by the IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency’s excellent training in all aspects of family medicine. Contrary to being focused on one aspect or delivery system of family medicine, she felt the program to be extremely well-rounded. She also liked how the program is affiliated with an academic center but offers great community-based experience as well.

Professional Interests: Public health, women’s health, intellectual disabilities, and medical genetics. Post-residency, Dr. Casselman is interested in practicing family medicine in a semi-rural setting.

Personal Interests and Hobbies: Going on drives with her husband in his Jeep; coaching Brownsburg High School tennis with her mother; and hiking with her dog, Herman.

Why Family Medicine: Dr. Gould chose family medicine because she loves the diversity of patients and medical issues that are covered. Additionally, she likes developing long term relationships and the focus on preventative medicine.

Why IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency: Dr. Gould chose IU because of the sense of support from faculty and residents who were excited to help her reach her goals, the strong curriculum and OB opportunities, and the focus on resident education.

Professional Interests: Full scope family medicine, including OB and women’s health, preventative medicine, and urgent care. Post-residency, Dr. Gould would like to pursue a fellowship in OB. She is flexible about where she practices, but could see herself staying in the Indianapolis area.

Personal Interests and Hobbies: Spending time with family, dancing, walking my dog, baking, and reading.

Why Family Medicine: Family medicine provides a wide variety of patients, ranging from the pediatric population to the geriatric population. Dr. Green found it very satisfying to be able to assist patients across this vast age demographic, and to serve the family unit as a whole. He enjoys the opportunity to make lifelong relationships with his patients.

Why IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency: The IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency program showed to be a strong training program that Dr. Green felt would give him the tools he will need to excel in serving future patients.  With such friendly staff and residents, he felt that the IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency was a perfect fit for him.

Professional Interests: Broad-spectrum family medicine. After residency, Dr. Green plans to serve in the greater Indianapolis area, where he was born and raised.

Personal Interests and Hobbies: Sports, food, craft beer, and comedy.

Why Family Medicine: Family medicine is at the forefront of primary, preventative and community care. This puts family medicine uniquely positioned to be able to understand the dynamics of families and the communities they live in, in order to cater to their needs. The continuity of care for the entire family, patient populations, disease processes and treatments drew Dr. Kiani to Family Medicine.

Why IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency: Dr. Kiani chose the IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency program because of its all-around strong curriculum, with a well-balanced emphasis on specialized tracks, inpatient and outpatient settings along with excellent facilities. What impressed him the most was the excellent faculty, residents and staff because of their dedication towards medical education and the fact that they constantly strive towards the betterment of the program along with the people in it. Dr. Kiani also really liked of how cordial and warm everyone is with exceptional camaraderie among everyone, which creates for an environment conducive for accelerated learning.

Professional Interests: OB/GYN, preventative and procedural medicine, emergency and urgent care, sports medicine. Post-residency, Dr. Kiani plans to continue practicing in an inpatient and outpatient setting. He intends to pursue an MBA/MHA during and a fellowship after residency.

Personal Interests and Hobbies: Teaching, volunteering, outdoor activities, playing my guitar and performing, Krav Maga, Soccer, Cricket, Football and other sports in general, mingling and spending quality time with family and friends.

Why Family Medicine: Dr. McNaughton chose family medicine because he likes the ability it gives him to establish long term relationships with patients. He also likes the ability family medicine affords to take care of entire families.

Why IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency: The IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency program has great faculty and residents.  It is a strong program with great patient diversity, and a great location in downtown Indianapolis. It felt like the best fit of all the programs at which Dr. McNaughton interviewed.

Professional Interests: Primary and preventative medicine. At this time, Dr. McNaughton’s plan post-residency is to join an existing outpatient practice.

Personal Interests and Hobbies: Basketball, soccer, running, piano, and singing in choir.

Why Family Medicine: Dr. Mohr chose family medicine because it involves treating the whole person and not just one system in the body. He also likes the ability to form long term relationships with his patients and their families.

Why IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency: Dr. Mohr chose the IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency program because as a medical student at the Indiana University School of Medicine, he completed a rotation here and enjoyed his entire month with with everyone. The residents and staff were very friendly and did an excellent job of teaching.

Professional Interests: Sports medicine. After residency, Dr. Mohr would like to do a sports medicine fellowship. For his career, he would like to cover high school and college sports as well as work in a family medicine clinic.

Personal Interests and Hobbies: Watching and playing sports, hiking and spending time outdoors.

Why Family Medicine: Dr. Singh chose family medicine as he sought a field that covered the full spectrum of medicine and involved working with all age groups. His belief in the power of preventative medicine also drew him to the field. His personality was another deciding factor: an empathetic extrovert at heart, Dr. Singh enjoys getting to know his patients and their families.

Why IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency: Dr. Singh found that the IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency offers exactly what he was looking for in a program: a large academic center, multiple fellowships, friendly residents and staff, and countless opportunities to learn and grow. What has impressed him most to date, however, has been the camaraderie between everyone at the program.

Professional Interests: While Dr. Singh enjoys the full scope of family medicine, he is particularly interested in sports medicine and global health. As such, after residency, he may pursue a fellowship in one of the two areas. Later down the line, he also aspires to undertake an MBA.

Personal Interests and Hobbies: Traveling, exercising, dancing, movies, and food.

Why Family Medicine: Dr. Snider looks forward to seeing patients one-on-one and being able to directly influence their lives not only through medicine but being able to grow with them by establishing a personal relationship. It also excites him to able to treat a patient from childhood on into adulthood, allowing for a meaningful and trustworthy relationship with his patients. He truly marvels at the fact that being a family physician would allow him direct access to patients’ care and allow him to be the first doctor to treat and educate his patients, hoping to make a lasting difference.

Why IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency: IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency was one of the few residencies where Dr. Snider felt at home. All the residents, faculty, and staff made him feel welcome. By being right in the heart of Indianapolis, he is confident the residency program will expose him to many different patients and diseases that one might not be able to see in a more suburban setting. Dr. Snider feels the program really values their residents education and time.

Professional Interests: Disease prevention and patient education. Dr. Snider strongly believes that patients need better education on their disease to make real life long change. Following residency, he would like to stay in the Indianapolis area to practice. He would also like the opportunity to be able to teach students and residents.

Personal Interests and Hobbies: Being with family and friends, getting outside and just enjoying the moment. He also enjoys music, movies, and biking.

Why Family Medicine: Dr. Torma chose Family Medicine because he likes the broad scope of practice, variety of settings. He also enjoys treating all age groups: children, adults, and the elderly.

Why IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency: Dr. Torma chose the IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency program because it is associated with a great school, Indiana University; has excellent facilities and faculty; offers strong inpatient and outpatient experience; and offers unique specialized tracks.

Professional Interests: Sports medicine, hospitalist, and possibly colon health. Currently, Dr. Torma is interested in pursuing a sports medicine fellowship or hospitalist plan after residency.

Personal Interests and Hobbies: Running, biking, tennis, soccer, golf, or other various recreational league sports.

Why Family Medicine: Growing up in Alabama, Dr. Watson witnessed family members battle several chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes. He wanted to practice in a field of medicine that would allow him to be able to combine his interest in prevention, education, and medicine to address these chronic conditions – family medicine was a natural fit. Additionally, he really enjoyed obstetrics during medical school, and he knew he wanted to include maternal health as part of his future practice. Family Medicine also gives him the opportunity to really embrace men’s health as well. He believes that men, especially men of color, do not utilize the health system. As such, he is interested in using non-traditional methods to reach men and deliver care. In a nutshell, family medicine provides the platform for his myriad of interests.

Why IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency: Dr. Watson wanted a challenging experience for residency that would best prepare him for his role as a physician in the new landscape of primary care. The IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency was the best choice for him because the program prepares residents to practice the full scope of family medicine in any medical setting (academic, rural, community, and urban). Additionally, he was interested in IU because he felt that he would receive the training necessary in order to become a community leader and advocate, as well as a well-rounded physician.

Professional Interests: Men’s health, obstetrics, and preventative medicine. After residency, Dr. Watson would like to pursue an obstetrics fellowship. He is interested in a direct primary care model of medicine where he will have the opportunity to provide his patients with full comprehensive primary services and preventive care. Ultimately, his vision includes starting mobile non-profit health care agency that offers prevention and general health services to rural and impoverished areas. His goal of practicing medicine is only part of the vision. The other lies in wanting to conduct studies on the social determinants to health like race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status.

Personal Interests and Hobbies: Spending time with friends, fraternity (Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc), movies, bowling (although he says he is not that good), and watching TV (a self-professed Netflix junkie). He also looks forward to exploring and discovering Indianapolis.

Why Family Medicine: Dr. Wolfe believes family medicine fosters a culture that emphasizes building relationships and taking into consideration the patient as a whole person when managing their medical needs. Family medicine is also the only specialty where one can engage in pediatrics, adult medicine, and obstetrics, allowing the physician to care for the entire family. All of these attributes are important to him for his future practice and are why he chose the specialty of family medicine.

Why IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency: The IU Methodist Family Medicine program embodies the culture that drew him to the specialty of family medicine – emphasizing relationships, holistic management, teamwork, professionalism, and enjoying one’s work. The program has very strong training in both outpatient and inpatient settings within tertiary hospital systems. Obstetrics training is also outstanding with a unique quality of having multiple residency faculty privileged in operative obstetrics.

Professional Interests: Full-scope family medicine (caring for pediatric and adult patients), obstetrics, medical education, inpatient and outpatient medicine, and procedures. Post-residency, there are a number of options Dr. Wolfe is considering, ranging from rural medicine to practicing in a larger city. He loves teaching and is also considering academic medicine.

Personal Interests and Hobbies: Spending time with family, playing guitar, reading, watching movies, gardening, soccer, and archery. He also loves writing, recording, and producing music.

Why Family Medicine: Dr. Ankerman chose family medicine because it allows him to take care of and establish long term professional relationships with patients of a variety of ages.

Why IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency: Dr. Ankerman was very impressed with the strong curriculum of the program and also the friendliness of the staff and faculty.

Professional Interests: Pediatrics, sports medicine, urgent care, and patient education.

Personal Interests and Hobbies: Watching movies, running, weightlifting, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

Why Family Medicine: Throughout her clinical years of medical school, Dr. David found herself falling in love with each of her rotations. She deeply valued every aspect of medicine and wanted to enter a field that would allow her to care for a wide range of patients and forge lasting doctor-patient relationships. Dr. David views family medicine as the all-encompassing field and could not be happier with her decision.

He likes being the first contact for patients to determine what might be happening and working with them to make a decision about their care. Being a family medicine physician allows one to coordinate everyone involved in their patient’s care and to practice preventive medicine.

First, he wanted to join a program with obvious camaraderie amongst staff, residents and faculty. Second, he wanted the program to have an excellent academic reputation. And lastly, he wanted to work in a community that offered a diverse patient population from which to learn. The IU Methodist Family Medicine Residency program offered all of this and much more.
