Bio

Dr. Timothy Ellender is  an associate professor of clinical emergency medicine and has been a faculty member at IU since 2008. Tim is a Louisiana native and graduate of the University of Louisiana, Lafayette who completed his medical training at LSUHSC in New Orleans in 2003. He and his wife Kyla moved to the Hoosier state shortly thereafter so that he could pursue further training in emergency medicine. Tim served as a chief resident and completed his EM training in 2006. He stayed in Indy to start and complete a two year fellowship in crtical care medicine, one of the first multi-disciplinary educational opportunities of its type in the US.  He has recieved awards for resident teaching, IUEM Residency Impact awards for his work with the critical care educational program and with resident research, and several Outstanding Teaching Faculty of the year awards from the Transitional Residency Program.

Tim completed his board certification in 2008,  joined the Department of Emergency Medicine as one of our faculty where he splits time in the ED and in the Trauma-Surgical ICU, and has taken a position as co-director of the Critical Care Fellowship Track. His academic interests include septic shock research (ProCESS), critical care educational development, and the study of the ED-ICU transition/interface.  He serves on both the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) and Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) Emergency Medicine Commitees where he is active in furthering EM interests and professional development.  When he is away from work, Tim enjoys outdoor activities such as biking, hiking, and exploring the midwest with his family.
