Students receive mid-rotation feedback from the site director. Grades assigned range from Honors, High Pass and Pass to Fail. Grades are determined by clinical performance. A Standardized Letter of Evaluation (SLOE) and meeting with the Emergency Medicine Program Director is provided to all visiting students upon request. Residency interviews are awarded on merit and are not guaranteed.
Applications should be submitted through the VSLO.
A letter of intent should be addressed to Dr. Nash Whitaker and uploaded as a supplemental document with the VSLO application. The letter should be no longer than one page, single spaced 12-point font. The letter should address the visiting student’s interest/background in Emergency Medicine and any particular attraction toward IU School of Medicine or Indiana. Applicants should also comment on one area of their medical school curriculum that they wish they could improve upon and how they would do so.
A USMLE Step 1 score of 215 or greater is required for all visiting MD and DO student applicants for the Emergency Medicine clerkship at IU School of Medicine. With a limited number of available spots that fill quickly, the Emergency Medicine clerkship program is unable to accept international medical students from universities that do not have a pre-existing agreement with IU School of Medicine. Students who are considered to be underrepresented in medicine are encouraged to apply for the Academic Scholarship.
Student housing is available on a limited basis at IU School of Medicine’s Indianapolis campus. Options are provided following acceptance.
