Pediatric Dermatology Fellowship

Each year IU School of Medicine offers a one-year pediatric dermatology fellowship that focuses on specialized training of pediatric skin diseases in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Funding for the fellowship is provided by Riley Children’s Foundation. After completion, a fellow may wish to pursue a specialty certification in pediatric dermatology or dermapathology from the American Board of Dermatology (ABD).

Training Curriculum

Pediatric Dermatology fellows participate in teaching current pediatric and dermatology residents, thus enhancing the educational environment at IU School of Medicnie. Teaching roles encompass both didactic and clinical teaching. Fellows in this program are also involved with pediatric inpatient and newborn consultations; pediatric outpatient visits; and dermatologic procedures, including laser and surgeries.

Supervised research experiences are a part of the pediatric dermatology fellowship as well. Fellows are expected to engage in research activities, including but not limited to case series, original basic research projects (either basic, translational or clinical), study design, protocol development, Investigational Review Board submissions, data analysis, and manuscript preparation. Fellows are expected to submit their work to the Society of Pediatric Dermatology (SPD) and/or the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) and attend the SPD Annual Meeting.
