Brief Description

Children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) can develop jaw damage when the jaw joints (temporomandibular joints or TMJ) are involved.  This jaw damage can cause pain on opening, pain on chewing and jaw growth problems leading to a small jaw with trouble opening the mouth. This registry would collect data about children, adolescents, and young adults with JIA with TMJ. The data collected in this registry may help to evaluate the safety of medications prescribed to treat rheumatic diseases and it may help improve treatments used in the future. 

Detailed Description

Potential participants can expect a study visit at enrollment and at 3-month intervals. These research visits may be combined with routine clinical care visits or be remote phone visits. Participants may be asked about medical information or how the disease affects their life or how they feel. Information will continue to be collected on participants until they transition to adult rheumatology. 

Eligibility of study

Inclusion Criteria:
  • Children 6 years old until transition to adult rheumatology diagnosed with TMJ disease or have TMJ pain or other TMJ disorders
  • English speaking/reading
Exclusion Criteria:
  • People who cannot provide informed consent or who do not have a guardian who can provide informed consent.
