Campus News and Events
Year-round, South Bend offers a growing list of first-class dining as well as microbreweries, Irish pubs and authentic international cuisine. The community supports a robust live music scene and theatre as well as fun-runs and park experiences, including a world-class kayaking facility. The medical school also hosts a series of popular events for students and the community.
For more than 10 years, the Medicine Ball has been the premier fundraiser at IU School of Medicine-South Bend and the best opportunity for members of the medical community to catch up with old friends and colleagues. The event also has raised more than $2.2 million
in scholarship funds for medical students. Proceeds also support faculty research, capital development projects, and the Navari Student Outreach Clinic.
The South Bend campus hosts an active chapter of the American Medical Women’s Association. Annually, this group hosts a fund-raiser on behalf of St. Margaret’s House that culminates with No-shave November and a Stache Bash dinner, auction and crowning of the Moustache King.
Mini Medical School
As part of the annual Mini Medical School program, members of the local community are invited to campus to hear lectures regarding health issues of key importance. Lectures are delivered by area physicians, and question and answer periods open the floor to participants. This series is offered in the spring, free-of-charge to the public, physicians, residents, medical students and interested health care staff. It is sponsored by the Medical Education Foundation.
