We are a fun loving, hard working team who have survived all the issues and problems that COVID continues to throw at us. We currently have 20 staff members that make up our research team. There are 4 support staff – Becky Buckner (Operations Manager), Del Warren (Business Manager), Jennifer Vinters (Regulatory and Contract Coordinator), Shelle Pero (Research Support Specialist). We have 7 Research Technologists who run the instruments in our five research lab areas at IUHPL and University Hospital AOC – Patrick Russell, Amy Young, Danielle Schreiber, Marico English, Wendy Veros, Amanda McFarland and Jennifer Howard. We also employ a collection team who assists with enrolling research study subjects – Nora Watts, Michele Rogers, Julie Breedlove and Kayla Kirby. Our research group currently has 5 Principle Investigators that oversee our research studies – Dr. Tom Davis, Dr. Chris Emery, Dr. Ryan Relich, Dr. Michelle Zimmerman and our newest PI-Dr. John-Paul Lavik.
In Vitro Diagnostics Development and Clinical Trials Group offers integrated services for every stage of clinical research – from development to commercialization. A results-driven academic enterprise, this group provides professional clinical laboratorymedicine expertise for the laboratory diagnostics industry. The group’s clinical footprint and centralized laboratories affords near limitless resources for the evaluation of developing clinical laboratory technologies.
The In Vitro Diagnostics Development and Clinical Trials Group team evaluates new In Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) devices or assays by comparison to conventional laboratory testing and/or similar molecular or analytic tests. Available services include reproducibility/precision testing, access to banks of clinical samples/tissue/microorganisms for the evaluation of newtechnologies, assays, antimicrobials and detection/identification systems. The research team is comprised of personnel that are certified Medical Technologists as well as Certified Clinical Research Coordinators by ACRP/SOCRA with many years’ experience in all phases and processes for conducting clinical research (GCPs, IRB submissions, contract negotiations).
I am very proud of our group. Our research was originally started by Dr. Tom Davis at Wishard Hospital with just one tech and has grown since 1989 into a very strong research team. We provide a unique service and have become very well known with many laboratory diagnostic companies in the United States and abroad. We also work very closely with the Emergency Room and OBGYN Research Teams here on our IUPUI campus. The team loves to interact with other groups and are always looking to assist anyone on campus who might need our help.
