Employee Spotlight

What is your position?
Senior Laboratory Technologist with Dr. Ghetti

How long have you been with IU?
I have been with I.U. since 1980, first with the Department of Anatomy with a grant that studied osteoarthritis. After this grant wasn’t renewed, I spent some time with Rheumatology in the old Long Hospital building from about July of 1982 to November of 1984 on a grant administered by the VA. This is where I got acquainted with both Dr. Bensons! So I have been working here in Pathology with Dr. Ghetti in the study of Alzheimer and related dementia since that time.

What is your favorite part about your position?
My favorite part of the job is tackling a new experiment or procedure in the lab. Research and development can take some interesting turns while digging into the literature and always feels satisfying when you hit your goal.

What is a fun fact about you?
I have been working on my family ancestry these past couple of years. We have a nice background of my Dad’s side who came from Switzerland, but not so much was known to me of my Mother’s side. After looking on some ancestry websites I found that her family is Cherokee/Scottish from North Carolina. This has caused a great interest in that culture for me and I am proud to say I am Cherokee.

Do you have any upcoming family holiday traditions?
Treasure your memories during the holiday season of family and friends - that is the best tradition!

What is your favorite Department of Pathology memory?
My favorite Department of Pathology memory is some of the people you have met along the way. My coworker Connie Alyea, Dottie Meyer, and Dr. Jim Smith are just a couple that spring to mind of the old guard.
