Top 5 Things to do For Fun in Indy during Orientation Week

Class of 2022: Soon you’ll be busy with orientation! Be sure to take some time to relax and connect with you classmates after orientation activities. The Orientation Committee has a few spots they recommend checking out!

1) Check out the Canal

The Canal downtown is a beautiful place to take a walk. You can even rent paddle boats or go for a gondola ride. Check out the restaurants just off of the water too!

Some people *cough* the Orientation Committee *cough* break into song and dance when they’re on the canal.

2) Grab a bite on Georgia Street

Are you a fan of breadsticks? Maybe breadsticks stuffed with cheese and/or pepperoni? Then you must stop by Kilroy’s on Georgia Street! While you’re in the area, you can also stop by places like Howl at the Moon for live music and delicious drinks.

Did someone say cheese?

3) Take a Stroll on Mass Ave

Massachusetts Avenue (Mass Ave) is definitely one of the more trendy places in downtown Indy. With tons of restaurants, bars, and shops to visit – you could spend a whole day here! The Orientation Committee recommends the following spots if you plan on visiting: Bakersfield, The Eagle, Goodfellas Pizza, Subzero and Silver in the City.

Where will this 45 degree road head to? Pizza? Ice cream? You decide!

4) Unleash Your Inner Hipster in Fountain Square

Fountain Square is an up-and-coming part of Indianapolis. Just a short car or bike ride away, it is home to many one-of-a-kind restaurants, microbreweries and meaderies. You are bound to come across live music or can even take up swing dancing at the Fountain Square Theater. Cheers!

5) Sightsee on Monument Circle

Monument Circle is in the heart of Indianapolis. You can even get inside of the monument and go to the top, if you catch it on a day it is open. Even without going into the monument, there are still plenty of things to do. Right on the circle you have a vintage candy shop, a chocolate shop, yummy sandwiches and a Starbucks! Not to mention you are just a block away from Circle Center Mall. Or maybe you’re feeling a carriage ride around the city? It’s up to you!

One of Indianapolis’ most iconic landmarks: the Soldiers & Sailors Monument (aka the circle monument).

Bonus: Get Acquainted with Hilbert Circle Theater

This is Hilbert Circle Theater on monument circle – the place where you officially become part of the medical community during the White Coat Ceremony. We are so excited to see you be coated here on Friday night. Soak it all in! It’s going to be something you remember forever.

A bird’s eye view of where you’ll be getting your white coat!
