How to vote early in Indiana for IU School of Medicine learners

Vote button and confetti

Due to the nature of the medical student experience, learners have busy schedules during the week. Coupled with the COVID-19 pandemic and worries of long voting lines on election day and possible disease transmission, and suddenly early voting sounds like the best thing since ________________!

IU School of Medicine encourages all learners, faculty, and staff to utilize the benefits of early voting (also known as “Absentee in Person”)

Here are the details for each of the nine counties where IU School of Medicine has a campus. Non-Indiana voters should look up their county clerk/county election board’s website or secretary of state’s website for dates, times, and locations.

Overview

All Indiana counties offer early voting. You must early vote in the county you are registered in (i.e., Marion, Monroe, Hamilton, etc). In order to find the early voting sites, dates, and times for your county, visit your county Election Board website or call, or use the Indiana Voter Portal to view your voter profile, where your voter locations will be listed. Typically, early voting will be allowed at the county clerk’s office, but some larger counties may add additional sites closer to election day. For example, Marion County will have 6 additional early “IndyVOTES Centers”.

What You Need to Vote

Review page 6 of the IUSM Voter Guide to see the laws around what type of identification card you can use as a state ID. For example, your Crimson Card is a state ID (but the name on the ID must conform to your legal name). Page 7 of the IUSM Voter Guide outlines additional documents you may need to if you are (1) a first time voter in Indiana, and (2) voted by mail.
