Statewide Course and Instructor Evaluations

Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) has developed a confidential online evaluation system to meet the needs of the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) and accreditation standards of the Liaison Committee for Medical Education (LCME).

Evaluations of instructors and courses are essential data for department chairs and course directors when making improvements in the curriculum. Student evaluations also play a significant role in faculty promotion and tenure decisions, curricular review and recommendations, and accreditation purposes. Suggestions offered by students have resulted in:

• Implementing block scheduling at some campuses
• Changing the format of courses
• Revising grading policies

For Students

Evaluations are your way to comment on the learning environment at IUSM and improve it for future medical students. The IUSM evaluation system is a confidential avenue for submitting honest, constructive feedback about the instructors and courses you experienced. Your full participation is needed to successfully initiate curricular change at IUSM. The completion of elective evaluations during the 4th year is a requirement for graduation.

For Faculty

Evaluation reports can be accessed by logging into the Faculty Education System (FES).

Course instructors will have access to their data after the following criteria have been met:

• Number of evaluations completed is greater than 5.
• Grades have been submitted for each student in the course.

Clinical Clerkships at FW, NW, SB, & TH
Because clinical programs at the Fort Wayne, Northwest, South Bend, and Terre Haute campuses are relatively new, course and instructor data from student evaluations will be immediately available for administrators to review. Center Directors, Center Clinical Coordinators, Department Chairs, Statewide Clerkship Directors and administration from the Office of Undergraduate Medical Education will have access to reports before the N of 5 and grade submission criteria have been met.
