Science Alive
For some two decades, IUSM-SB students have made science come alive at the annual Science Alive! program sponsored by the St. Joseph County Public Library. This program occurs in early Spring and highlights fields of science and technology focusing on K-8 grade students. More than 5,000 students and adults visit over 100 exhibits.
For their part, Indiana University School of Medicine - South Bend students design new and unique opportunities for the children of St. Joseph county and surrounding communities. A planning team is assembled to brainstorm and design hands-on activities that would expose students to careers in medicine. These stations have included topics such as smoking cessation/lung function, nutrition/obesity in children, major organ functions and a new focus on exercise for children.
