Renal Replacement Therapy (RRT)

We maintain over 30 CRRT machines at four hospitals.  Fellows become proficient in prescribing and maintaining CRRT for critically ill patients suffering from burns, sepsis, liver failure, neutropenia, multi-organ failure, etc.

• Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy - We maintain over 30 CRRT machines at four hospitals.  We have experise in all the common modalities, including:
  • CVVH
  • CVVHD
  • CVVHDF
  • SCUF
  • Intensive Daily Dialysis
  • Nocturnal Hemofiltration
• We utilize four different machines at four hospitals, ensuring that you will be comfortable managing CRRT wherever you end up practicing:
  • NxStage
  • Prisma
  • PrismaFlex
  • BBraun

Our acute hemodialysis units are very active ensuring you develop expertise in all areas from rapidly progressive renal failure to toxin exposures and patients with tenuous hemodynamic physiology. 

Our referral centers commonly deal with disease entities requiring plasmapheresis, which our service is intimately involved in.

Our faculty manage chronic hemodialysis patients at several sites across the city and surrounding area.  We have one of the largest hemodialysis populations in the region.

We have a pioneer and leader in a field of home therapies and have one of the most active peritoneal dialysis and home hemo populations in the region.

• 40-60 active PD patients
• We train more than 2 PD patients per month
• We place 20-30 PD catheters annually
• We have the largest, single-center home hemo program in the country with over 50 patients
