Outpatient Experience

All first and second-year fellows have a weekly continuity clinic and a monthly transplant clinic. In addition, during the inpatient rotation month for transplant nephrology, fellows attend pre-transplant, donor-screening and immediate post-transplant clinics.

During the second year of fellowship, fellows follow a group of chronic hemodialysis patients, whom they see weekly under the supervision of faculty. In addition, second-year fellows have peritoneal dialysis, home hemo clinics, stone clincs and opportunities for additional outpatient exposure through the Medical Diagnostic Clinic. This clinic, attached to IU Health University Hospital, has a state-wide referral base, thus the level of complexity of these patients usually exceeds that of general nephrology clinics.
