Dr Agarwal’s laboratory is actively involved in three areas: 1) measurement of blood pressure and the management of hypertension in chronic kidney disease including those on hemodialysis; 2) management of anemia especially the role of iron in those with chronic kidney disease not on dialysis; and 3) vitamin D metabolism especially as it is related to the progression of chronic kidney disease.  His laboratory is equipped to measure ambulatory blood pressure, glomerular filtration rate (iothalamate clearance), body composition, echocardiograms and vascular function.  Dr Agarwal’s laboratory has had cumulative research federal funding for the past 15 years.  Dr Agarwal serves on the following committees and research groups:  a permanent member of the VA Merit Review, ad hoc member on several NIH study sections, associate editor for 4 major journals (NephSAP, American Journal of Nephrology, Journal of the American Society of Hypertension, and Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation), editorial board of several major journals (CJASN, Kidney International, and Hypertension), board of director of KDIGO, chair of an adjudication committee and a data safety monitoring board of an international trial, and is a member of the external advisory committee of the United States Renal Data System.
