This sculpture was dedicated 2001 and
created by Kenneth G. Ryden. It adorns the
front entrance of the Edmund F. Ball Medical
Education Center (IUSM-Muncie's home).
The bronze medical intern, who is holding a
flame that represents the light of knowledge,
is seen coming through a stainless steel arch.
The arch is dually symbolic of new discoveries
in medicine and for the passage of the student
from intern into a practitioner.
