Certification in Global Health
Certificate in Global Health Concentration
Requirements
Didactic Teaching: one noon conference and one evening session per month will provide an interactive opportunity to expand our knowledge base in global health. Because these sessions are meant to be interactive, participation is expected unless resident is on call. Goal is to attend at least 75% of teaching sessions over 12 months (18 of 24 sessions).* Each global health resident will choose 1-2 topics of interest per year and will pair with the faculty presenter to co-facilitate session.
Competency-based Portfolio: written documentation of how your residency track experience has fostered growth in each of the six ACGME competencies (Patient Care, Medical Knowledge, Interpersonal Skills and Communication, Practice-based Learning and Improvement, Professionalism, and Systems-based Practice). To be reviewed yearly with your Global Health mentor.
International Elective: two month hands-on patient care experience in one of the university’s approved global health elective sites. An elective site must provide on-site supervision by a board-certified physician in your specialty. A written reflection of your experience (5-10 pages) and presentation of two patient cases will be required upon completion of your elective. An alternative Local-Global elective option is possible if barrier to international travel exists.
Local Global/Community Outreach: a wide array of local-global needs and opportunities exist here in Indianapolis and its surrounding communities. Each participating resident will be asked to spend at least 20 hours over the course of two years in local-global outreach.
Evaluation of Global Health Curriculum: in effort to continually improve our new global health curriculum, residents will be asked to evaluate the curriculum and global health track experience on a quarterly basis.
*Web-based modules can be completed to cover material if 75% attendance is not possible.
