Research
The research projects conducted under the auspices of the Family Violence Institute have one common goal: understanding the underlying causes of family violence so that we can work to prevent it. Many agencies and advocates are collaborating together to create new projects. It is only when we can all work together to finally understand why our families are suffering, that we will be able to collectively lessen the effects.
Current projects among our collaborators include:
- Understanding physician decision-making about child abuse so that we may improve clinical care
- Establishing the current state of Indiana child fatality review in an effort to create a more cohesive and effective program
- Reviewing academic literature for current statements/practices in child abuse and domestic violence
- Testing whether "E-Parenting" - a computer program in use for home visitation - is useful in preventing child abuse and neglect
- Assessment of prevalence of family violence among different socioeconomic and racial/ethnic groups via a Web-based survey
- Studying the relationship between abuse and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Studying the relationship between abuse and fibromyalgia
