It is my privilege to introduce our outstanding core of faculty and staff and activities in the Department of Cellular & Integrative Physiology. Our success clearly stems from a strong base involving individuals committed to our shared mission of conducting outstanding research and teaching. The discipline of physiology has evolved substantially over the last decade. We maintain ties with classic integrative concepts of whole animal and organ physiology, while using sophisticated experimental tools of the 21st century to approach important physiological questions at cellular and molecular levels. Indeed, “integrative physiology” today must encompass all these levels. We are pleased that our mission is entirely consistent with the major research, teaching, and service missions of Indiana University School of Medicine. Indeed, our departmental theme is integration by skills, projects, student training, and centers. |
