Research Interests:

Project #1:
Injured renal cells generate a stress response that enables them to recover and survive. We are characterizing the molecular steps involved in the stress response of renal cells. The ultimate objective is to develop therapies that enhance the stress response of injured renal cells.

Project #2:
We found two major adaptations of glucose transporting epithelia in diabetes: (1) greater surface area and (2) more glucose transporters. We are now looking at the molecular biology of these epithelial adaptations to diabetes. The ultimate goal is to design therapies that interfere with these adaptations. We will then determine their protective role in renal disease of diabetes.
