Lecture Series
Each autumn, the Indiana University School of Medicine-Evansville sponsors a lecture and luncheon featuring a nationally prominent medical speaker whose expertise in an area of medical specialty and/or biomedical research that is internationally recognized. The annual Patrick J.V. and Margaret B. Corcoran Lecture is an endowed lectureship honoring the memory of the founding director of the southwestern regional campus, the IU School of Medicine-Evansville. Patrick J.V. Corcoran, M.D., was a professor of medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine and assistant dean from 1971 to 1983. His wife, Margaret B. Corcoran, was a nurse and anesthetist. The lecture and luncheon are open to friends, members of the medical/health care community, biomedical and nutritional professionals, medical students and Bachelor/Medical Degree undergraduate students at the University of Southern Indiana. The guest speaker also presents an special afternoon session for medical students and an evening lecture open to the public, both on the USI campus.
Dr. and Mrs. Corcoran's four daughters represent their late parents at the October lecture and include Sheila Corcoran, Ellen Corcoran Hegeman and Monica Corcoran all of Evansville and Val Corcoran Wenzler, M.D., Zionsville.
The Patrick J.V. Corcoran Scholarship also supports medical student education at the Evansville Center of IUSM.
